Every eligible veteran deserves a final tribute that reflects their honorable military service. Military Funeral Honors provide a solemn expression of our nation’s gratitude and ensure veterans are recognized with the respect they have earned.
Military Funeral Honors
Military Funeral Honors are provided by the United States Department of Defense in coordination with the veteran’s branch of service. In Georgia, funeral honors are coordinated through the Georgia National Guard and other designated military organizations to ensure eligible veterans receive the honors they have earned.
What Military Funeral Honors May Include
Flag Folding & Presentation
The ceremonial folding and presentation of the United States flag to the veteran’s next of kin.
🎺 Playing of Taps
The traditional sounding of Taps in honor of the veteran’s military service.
🎖️ Military Honor Detail
A military honor guard consisting of uniformed service members.
🔫 Rifle Volley (if applicable)
Military rifle honors when authorized and requested.
🎗️ Pallbearer Support (when available)
Support personnel for eligible funeral services.
🫡 Military Recognition
A dignified ceremony recognizing the veteran’s faithful service to our nation.
Eligibility
Under federal law, eligible veterans are entitled to Military Funeral Honors upon request. These honors are coordinated through the Department of Defense and the appropriate military service branch.
Request Military Funeral Honors
Funeral directors typically coordinate Military Funeral Honors on behalf of the veteran’s family. Family members may also request honors directly if needed.
